Sacred? Secular? Now we can find flawless motivation to let our goodness surface.
There was a time when the sacred way
was the only way of life.
Religion had the monopoly
so we bought blessings and
made donations so we could get to Heaven.
Our daily lives presented constant opportunities
to be virtuous and accumulate merit,
or sin and wait for punishment,
but on someone else’s terms.
Now we are secular, steering clear of religion.
Fame and fortune have the monopoly.
But this is the ideal chance to find our true nature
on our own terms, without external pressure.
Our motivation to live virtuously and accumulate merit
can be completely pure, our motivation flawless.
Heaven is here and now on the glorious Earth,
and the gods live around us every second.
There are no punishments to be exacted
no rewards to be won
just the grinding wheel of adversity to polish
our rough diamond so it sparkles.
